Today was the end of round 1 of the 2013 Battle of the Books in the 5th Grade class at Colebrook Elementary School. A quick synopsis of the program- with the help of CLiF in purchasing the books for the program I put together a bracket similar to one used for March Madness. The kids got a copy of the bracket and made predictions on who they thought was going to win based on just looking at the cover. They were then given a "bracket" to read. Each person read two books and today voted on the book they liked the best. It was awesome, not a single book that they predicted to win even came close to winning. Now we are in round 2 everyone is reading one book that is going up against the winner of their original bracket. They are reading books they never would have picked up by choice and they are excited.
For Round 2 One for the Murphy's will be up against Matilda winner of the east bracket. In the other side Heat will be taking on A Dog's Life. This is exciting stuff. The losers of today Hatchet, The Homework Machine, Hothead, and Swindle we thank you for you participation.
When the battle is done we are going to make geocache boxes to hide around town...more on that later.
